On Thursday, November 10, organisations and women who are playing a key role in advancing gender equity will be awarded for their contribution at the Standard Bank Top Women awards ceremony which will be held at the Emperors Palace, Johannesburg. 

The Standard Bank Top Women annual awards honour outstanding leadership, inspiration, vision and innovation in organisations that play a role in advancing women to the forefront of the economy. The awards cover all the major economic sectors and recognise businesses from SMMEs all the way to the national level.

Among the Top categories that many look forward to every year is the Top Women Business Leader of the Year which celebrates a female leader who shows astute business acumen, strategic foresight and a passion for gender empowerment. The award celebrates women who have a track record of exceptional business performance but who also implement innovative policies to empower fellow women. Women entering this category are inspirational leaders who ensure they use their platform to drive economic and social empowerment for others.

The Top Woman Entrepreneur of the Year celebrates female entrepreneurs who are renowned in their field. The winner is seen as an inspiration to her fellow entrepreneurs – someone whose career is built on a foundation of excellence, ingenuity, and integrity. They demonstrate strong leadership skills, and an eye for innovation, and must live the spirit of gender empowerment.

The work of a public sector leader is also recognised at the awards with the Top Women Leader in the Public Sector category. This award is for women who have a track record of excellent performance and service delivery in parastatals, SOEs, government departments and municipalities. The award  winner is someone who has, through her public profile, raised the visibility of women in government.

It is especially important to acknowledge those who are driving gender empowerment across the continent and finalists and participants will get an opportunity to celebrate their achievements at this year’s event.
