Melun Jeptha is a qualified professional natural scientist with a B.Tech in Environmental Management, and is registered with the South African Council of Natural and Scientific Professions (SACNASP)
A recent participant and graduate of the SAB Foundation Tholoana Enterprise Programme, Melun was also the recipient of The Collaboration Award, as she used the power of collaboration to unlock new opportunities and explore unchartered territories.
What got you into the field you’re currently in?
From a young age I developed a love for the environment. I enjoyed being outdoors and marvelled at the beauty of nature. Since then I have considered myself as a custodian to help build a thriving and sustainable environment.
What excites you the most about your role at Ohana Environmental Consultants and Projects?
I am an environmental practitioner which enables me to be an integral role player when it comes to how developments take place within the environmental planning phase. I ensure that our clients and community understand our role, whilst leaving a positive impact that can be felt by future generations.
How is Ohana Environmental Consultants and Projects assisting the economy?
Through our delivery of environmental impact assessments we assess the role that developments have on people and the economy.
What are your top 3 tips for success?
- Understand your field of practice and your goals that you wish to achieve.
- Network: ask for guidance and reach out to peers.
- Believe in yourself. This is so important!
How have you overcome hard times in your career?
Working with individuals that have ulterior motives and that are not authentic. This has truly been an eye opener for me.
What are your goals for the future?
To expand my provincial footprint into the Eastern and Northern Cape, and to diversify our service offering to include climate adaptation.

What advice do you have for women entrepreneurs who aspire to work in your field?
The environmental management field is an incredible field. Decide on the sector you wish to work in and own your place by always ensuring you offer the best of yourself. That ultimately becomes your product that you showcase to the world. Keep learning and expanding your knowledge. Determine your strengths and the direction that you wish to take, and set your sights on it wholeheartedly.
