Empowering education and making a difference
By Raine St.Claire
Dineo is a giver. Her name means gift. Her intention is simply to be a gift to the world.
Dineo Baloyi is a remarkable individual. She has become a beacon of hope for those seeking education and a better future. Her tireless efforts, from providing essential resources during load shedding to supporting primary school learners, exemplify how one person can make a profound impact on the lives of many.
The early beginnings
From a young age, Dineo’s passion for helping others was evident. Even when she secured her first job at 21, she dedicated herself to assisting learners in her community with admissions and bursary applications. This drive led her to establish the Dineo Foundation in 2016, with the aim of providing improved educational opportunities for the people of Hammanskraal, her hometown.
Balancing multiple responsibilities
Today, Dineo works full-time for an infrastructure development firm in Sandton, while also managing her studies and raising a young child. Despite her demanding schedule, she remains actively involved in the Dineo Foundation, continuing to uplift learners and create positive change in their lives.
Inspired by her upbringing
Dineo’s foundation draws inspiration from her own upbringing, characterised by the unwavering support and love she received from her family. Though they faced financial challenges, her father would regularly visit her school to monitor her progress, and he would stay up with her during late-night study sessions. These experiences instilled in Dineo a deep appreciation for the power of support and motivated her to help others.
The Dineo Foundation operates various programs, including the monitoring and support of learners at Rapelego Primary School and Sibongile Community Centre. Through quarterly assessments, the foundation identifies areas where learners require assistance and provides resources such as school shoes, uniforms, food, reading glasses, and extra lessons. Dineo envisions the foundation expanding its support structure to reach more disadvantaged individuals, believing that success can be achieved through collective support.
Light for life project
Currently, Dineo is spearheading the Light For Life project, aimed at raising funds to supply rechargeable lights to matric students, enabling them to study during load shedding. Each light costs R300, and donations or sponsorships are welcomed to support this initiative.
Dineo Baloyi’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and compassion. Through her foundation and personal endeavours, she continues to empower learners and make a lasting impact on their lives. Dineo’s unwavering dedication and commitment to uplifting others serve as an inspiration for all, reminding us that a single individual can truly change the world for the better.
