When it comes to being a productive entrepreneur, achieving business goals and maintaining a healthy work-life balance is key. By implementing effective strategies for task management, being able to prioritise while keeping an eye on self-care, these tips can boost your productivity and help you to succeed in your ventures.
- Assess tasks
It is imperative to assess what tasks need to be done. Knowing what you need to be doing is the first step in ensuring productivity.
- Prioritise tasks
Once you have compiled your list of all the tasks you need to do, rank them in order of urgent versus not so urgent.
- Delegate effectively
If you have help or a team to rely on, delegate, delegate, delegate as much as you can to assist you in attending to tasks more efficiently.
- Work through your list
Work through your list with the aim of not moving on until a task is done or putting the task back on the list to ensure you do not forget about it.
- Take necessary breaks
Take breaks between each task or at particular times. This can be a tea break, a day off, or a week away from work – take what you need in order to be able to give your business/work the attention it needs.

- Acknowledge accomplishments
When you get something done, ensure that you make a mental note that you have ticked something off your list and be proud about it – it boosts morale and can keep you motivated on days when you don’t have much to give.
- Manage low-energy days
Either take a complete break or start with small tasks that will make the easier chunks easier to get through – this is where delegation comes in again. Sometimes I don’t have the energy to design a kitchen but I will send through plans to my 3D artist for him to get the framework up – it’s one less task I would need to worry about the next day without interrupting the flow of work too much that might make it pile up the next day.
- Establish a routine
Try to get into a routine that works for your life. If you like slow mornings, have slow mornings but ensure to prep up the previous evening (yep, evenings) or ensure you’ve scheduled your emails. Personally, going to sleep knowing that I’ve prepped what I need to get straight into things when I wake up, is the best feeling – I’m not wasting time trying to make sense of a new day, I get right to it. I get through my tasks quicker and start off my day feeling really accomplished and build from there.
- Be honest with yourself
This is the best way to carry out all the above. Find a system that works for you and do your best to perfect it. Productivity is about efficiency, and the best way to be efficient with your business is to find the best way to make it work (for you).
