During the Standard Bank Top Women Conference 2025, Topco Media Group Editor Fiona Wakelin interviewed Caroline Nhlane, Head of Communications at Enel Green Power South Africa about her experience at the event. This is part of a series designed to give you a front-row seat to the voices and moments that defined the conference.
“The key message I’d like to convey today is to be open to opportunities, to be open to engage, to network, to be surprised. I’ve personally been surprised just this morning in the personal discussions I’ve had, and the people that I’ve met just by being open to hearing somebody’s story and letting that take me on a journey that I didn’t quite expect”, said Caroline.
Enel Green Power develops and manages power generated from renewable resources worldwide. In South Africa, this includes the Tom Burke solar plant in Limpopo, and the Soetwater and Karusa wind farms in the Northern Cape.
On her experience of the conference, Caroline said that being in a room with so many different types of women, from so many backgrounds and perspectives gave her such a rich experience. “Somebody might say something on the stage that might just spark a thought in you that you might not have thought of, and I think it’s just giving an opportunity for us to expand our minds, to expand our networks. Just sharing other people’s experiences I think for me is just such a powerful opportunity that we don’t always see in our everyday business.”

She added that what made participating at this year’s event particularly special was that Enel Green Power South Africa had brought along some of the beneficiaries of their economic development initiatives – small business owners from various communities. “So the conference is not just impacting us in Sandton, in the business world here. We were able to have an impact with some women who otherwise might not have had this exposure and the opportunity to network with other women.”
With the theme “Her Power. Africa’s Future” the Standard Bank Top Women Conference, South Africa’s premier gender empowerment platform took place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 22 to 23 September.
