MAN Truck & Bus South Africa has been honoured with a prestigious Standard Bank Top Women Leaders certification, for its outstanding commitment to gender transformation and inclusive leadership within the automotive industry.
This recognition celebrates organisations that have made significant strides in promoting women’s leadership and empowerment – particularly at executive and decision-making levels. The company currently boasts 33% black female representation within its Executive Committee, a milestone that positions it as a leading advocate for transformation in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Across the business, 25% of the organisation’s total workforce are women, with 20% female representation in management positions – a reflection of the company’s deliberate and sustained investment in developing diverse leadership pipelines.
The company believes in creating a sustainable pipeline of female talent across all levels of the organisation. This commitment starts at the foundation, with female apprentices in workshops and trainees in technical and commercial roles, ensuring that women are represented from entry-level through to executive leadership. By embedding diversity into its talent strategy, the company is cultivating future leaders who will continue to drive transformation in the automotive sector.
In line with its evolving people philosophy, MAN also made a significant change this year by transitioning from ‘Human Resources’ to ‘People & Culture’. This shift reflects the company’s belief that employees are not resources – they are people and must be respected, valued, and empowered as such. The People & Culture function focuses on setting the tone for a company culture that is inclusive, respectful, and representative of all, fostering an environment where every individual can thrive.
“Recognising MAN Truck & Bus South Africa for its progress in transformation aligns perfectly with the vision of Standard Bank Top Women Leaders,” said Clay Tsapi of Topco Media. “Representation at the executive level sends a powerful message – it demonstrates not only belief in female leadership, but a commitment to building inclusive, sustainable organisations that reflect South Africa’s diverse talent landscape.”
Receiving the award on behalf of the company, Sarah Luthuli, Executive Director People & Culture remarked: “We are deeply honoured by this recognition. At MAN, transformation and diversity are not just compliance goals – they are part of our culture and business strategy. In an industry that has traditionally been male-dominated, especially in heavy commercial vehicles, our commitment to empowering women is shaping the future of mobility and leadership.”
This award underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to champion diversity, inclusion, and equitable representation across its operations – aligning with both South Africa’s transformation agenda and the organisation’s global values of respect and responsibility. .
