By Mimi Kalinda, CEO & Founder – Africa Communications Media Group
As we approach the end of another challenging and transformative year, I want to speak directly to the women entrepreneurs and leaders who continue to break barriers and redefine success in our dynamic business landscape.
Throughout my journey with ACG, I’ve learned that true leadership is not about power, but about empowerment. It’s about creating spaces where everyone regardless of gender can succeed, grow, and contribute meaningfully.
Making workplaces work for everyone
Inclusivity is important. The most successful organizations are those that embrace diversity not as a compliance requirement, but as a fundamental strength. This means:
- Creating environments where different voices are not just heard, but truly valued
- Implementing mentorship programs that support women at all career stages
- Challenging unconscious biases that limit potential
Staying productive and protecting your energy
As we near the end of the year, many of us are feeling the weight of accumulated challenges. This is precisely when self-care becomes non-negotiable.
Some practical tips for maintaining productivity and wellbeing:
- Set clear boundaries between work and personal time
- Practice intentional downtime – this means genuine rest, not just switching between work tasks
- Invest in your mental and physical health through regular exercise, proper nutrition, and mindful practice.
The leadership characteristics that matter
What makes a great leader? In my view, it’s a combination of emotional intelligence, resilience, and authentic communication. Women bring unique strengths to leadership – we’re often natural collaborators, excellent listeners, and adept at navigating complex interpersonal dynamics.
Key leadership traits include:
- The ability to stay calm under pressure
- Being transparent and genuine
- Always being open to growth and new perspectives
Rejuvenation before returning to work
The holiday season is not just a break – it’s an opportunity for reflection and renewal. Before diving back into work, take time to:
- Reflect on your achievements from the past year
- Set intentional goals for the coming months
- Connect with loved ones and recharge your emotional batteries
As we close out this year, I want to remind every woman in business: You are not just participants in the business world. You are shapers, innovators, and leaders who are transforming how we work, lead, and succeed.
Enjoy the holidays!
