By Shaaista Osman, CEO of Blu Blood
As the year draws to a close, I often find myself reflecting on the journey that has shaped me, not only as a CEO in the entertainment and live events industry, but as a woman who has tried, every single day, to lead with both intention and heart. Long before the lights and the stages, I was simply the youngest child in an overachieving family, where ambition was a language and not a luxury. I learnt early that dreams don’t work unless you do, and that determination, anchored in grace, becomes a force more powerful than circumstance.
I still believe that success is not defined by the accolades but by how deeply you remain connected to who you are and why you began – a notion that becomes even more critical toward the end of the year when people often feel their most depleted.
Operating across South Africa and the UAE, every season is a busy season. Where one season quiets down, the other picks up. This is our storm season, where calendars are jam-packed (something we’re very grateful for!). It is when teams push long hours, creativity and logistics collide, and the expectations of audiences rise. It is also when leaders carry a double load: delivering excellence while remaining emotionally anchored for the people who rely on us.

There have been many end-of-year moments where the pressure felt immense, where the industry demanded performance above all else. But I’ve learnt that the only way to stay motivated is to stay rooted. When the pressure pushes you to compromise your authenticity, you must hold firmer to your core. Because the truth is: leadership is not about appearing unshakeable, it’s about staying aligned.
People often celebrate the highlights, but the real fortitude is built in the silent seasons. The times of uncertainty, recalibration, or reinvention. One of the most defining seasons in my journey was during the pandemic, when our industry came to a standstill. Relocating to the UAE and helping reopen Dubai’s entertainment scene by hosting the first large-scale “Covid-conscious” concert required a kind of courage that didn’t roar, it whispered, “Try again, adjust again, trust again.”
Another interesting dynamic of my work is that I do it alongside my husband and business partner, Osman. Working with your “other half” is like a dance – some days graceful, some days chaotic, but always anchored by mutual respect and a shared vision. And behind every milestone is an intention: to create moments that people remember for life.
As we prepare to celebrate 16 years of Blu Blood, I am reminded that legacy is about impact over time. It is about the lives touched, the artists elevated, the teams empowered, and the audiences who walk away feeling something unforgettable. We are building a legacy one moment at a time.
To the young woman doubting whether she can lead with both softness and strength: You don’t have to choose. Your softness is your power. Your strength is your birthright. Your authenticity is your advantage. When I first started, I didn’t understand this as deeply as I do now.
As we close the year, my message is simple: Protect your heart. Honour your boundaries. Stay committed to the vision that moves you. And most importantly – lead with intention – even when you are tired. Because when all is said and done, the show must go on – and it does.
